History of the Faculty

The decision to establish the Faculty of Personnel Management, Sociology and Psychology was made by the University Academic Council on September 25, 2014. The faculty was created based on the Faculty of Personnel Management and Marketing and officially began operations in August 2015.

Despite being a relatively young faculty, the preparation of specialists in this field has a rich history and strong traditions. The training of specialists in Labour Economics began in 1961 at the Faculty of Planning and Economics. In 1965, the university administration established a new faculty—Labour Economics and Material-Technical Supply.

In 1965, a new department—Labour Economics and Material-Technical Supply—began operating at the newly created faculty, which later became the Department of Scientific Organization of Management and Labour. In 1975, the training of labour economics specialists was assigned to this department.

From 1988 to 1991, the university trained specialists in Labour Economics and Sociology. In 1992, a program in Personnel Management was introduced. The dynamic development of the labour market and the growing interest of employers in modern management practices led to another revision of the programme name and content.

In 2003, the specialty was renamed Personnel Management and Labour Economics. Today, bachelor's degree training is conducted at the Department of Socioeconomics and Personnel Management in Personnel Management and Social Sphere Management programmes.

To meet the economic demand for specialists in sociology and psychology within the economy, as well as to strengthen economics teaching, in 2014, the university introduced bachelor’s programmes in: Sociology (specialization: Sociology in Economics), Psychology (specialization: Economic and Social Psychology), Professional Education (Economics). In 2020, the faculty launched a new undergraduate programme: Economic Journalism.
